For the person handling it

Someone died, and now it’s all on you.

Sterling asks you ten plain questions and gives you back the actual list — what to do this week, which deadlines are real, what happens to each account, and where you genuinely need to pay someone.

It takes about six minutes. Nothing is sold to you along the way.

The first week is the expensive one

Homeowner’s policies lapse on empty houses. Inherited IRAs become fully taxable if you move them wrong. Both are undoable in week one and permanent by week six.

Most of this isn’t probate

Accounts with a named beneficiary skip the courts entirely and settle in about two weeks. Knowing which of theirs did is the difference between two weeks and two years.

You need less help than you fear

Sterling tells you which parts you can do yourself in an afternoon, and which parts are worth paying someone for. Usually it’s fewer than people assume.

How we make money

The roadmap is free and always will be. If you ask us to introduce you to an attorney, an accountant or an adviser, that firm pays us a flat fee — the same fee from every firm, so we have nothing to gain by steering you. It doesn’t change what you pay them. Say no and you still keep everything.
